Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP)
NWT is the most populated territory in the northern part of Canada, with diamond producing being its largest industry. With the beautiful capital city, i.e. Yellowknife, it is one of the best places to settle in Canada.
The Northwest Territories are the northern part of Canada and the most populated in the region and around 44,000. The yellow knife is the capital of the Northwest Territories. Yukon surrounds it in the west and Nunavut in the east and Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia in the south. The Northwest Territories are popular for producing diamonds. Its economy relies heavily on the geological or natural resources, i.e. Diamond, gold, oil, petroleum, natural gas, etc.
The Provincial nominee program of the Northwest Territories is Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP), which is responsible for selecting the quality immigrants for permanent residency in NWTs. The NTNP choose the candidates with the right skills and experience for the provincial nominee certificate, making them eligible to apply for permanent residency in Canada to live and work in the NWTs.
There are four main streams of NTNP:

- – Skilled Worker
- – Critical Impact Worker
- – Entrepreneur
- – Self-Employed Business

Northwest Territories Express Entry stream
This category is for the candidates who are registered and accepted in the Express Entry pool of candidates. The NWTs will pick your profile from EE Pool for nomination under skilled worker category.
Eligibility Requirements
To apply under express entry stream of NWTs, you must meet the below requirements:
- – Need to have the required certification or authorization for the particular trade or occupation;
- – Fulfil territorial certification, licensing or registration needs for the job (if required)
- – Need to have the work experience needed to perform the job
- – Give proof of enough settlement funds
- – Show the ability to speak in either English or French
- – Proof of settlement funds
- – Should not be a refugee claimant.
Skilled Worker
This category is for the candidates, with a job offer in a skilled position from an employer in Northwest Territories.
Eligibility Requirements
To apply under this category, the applicant needs to fulfil the below eligibility requirements:
- – Need to have the required certification or authorization for the particular trade or occupation;
- – Fulfil territorial certification, licensing or registration needs for the job
- – Must have the work experience needed to perform the job
- – Give proof of enough settlement funds
- – Proof of settlement funds
- – Should not be a refugee claimant.
Critical Impact Worker
This category is for applicants with a job offer from Northwest Territories employer, in semi-skilled /unskilled position. The candidate applying under this category must have worked in the position in the NWTs for at least six months.
Eligibility Requirements
To apply under this category, the applicant needs to fulfil the below eligibility requirements:
- – Need to have a temporary work permit and have worked in the given position for at least six months;
- – Give proof of enough settlement funds
- – Must have the work experience needed to perform the job
- – Should be able to manage basic communications in either English or French, based on the official language in practice at the workplace
- – Arrange language testing by an agency recognized by IRCC.
- – Should not be a refugee claimant.
Entrepreneur
This particular category is for those entrepreneurs or owner-operators of a business entity looking to set up a business in the Northwest Territories. The businesses of all domains can apply for this category; however, those businesses will get the preference, which launches any new product or a product of considerable advantage to the Northwest Territories.
Self-Employed
This particular category is for the self-employed professionals, who plan to set up business outlets or professional practices to offer services highly in demand in the NWTs.
Eligibility Requirements
To apply under this category, the applicant needs to fulfill the below eligibility requirements:
- – Require practicing a profession in a field, which has a skills shortage
- – Fulfil certification or accreditation needed (if applicable)
- – Need to fulfil all NWT or Canadian requirements for regulated occupations.
- – Show basic communication skills for the province
- – Show a knowledge and understanding of the Northwest Territories and its economy/industries
- – Show access to enough financial resources to start and run the practice, and support themselves and the accompanying dependents, for six months
- – Provide a complete business plan.
